Despite such disadvantages, some candidates see hope even in their trailing totals. Dr. Eric Wargotz, a Queen Anne's County Commissioner, reported more than $600,000 on hand for his effort to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, who has $2.9 million of her own.
"Voters are tired of the one-party rule in Washington," he said. "These fundraising numbers show we have the resources we need to win the Republican primary, and to then take on Senator Mikulski in November."
